Oh, no! not a JOB?
(aka, life after college but before California)

In the time following my graduation from college I floated for a while. I did not know what I was going to do so I moved home and went on IRC in earnest. There I met some of the most interesting and bizarre people I have ever known. I met Pix - the wonderful aussie, Karl, Archer, Alex and a host of others. Karl brought me to California and helped me get my first job here, Pix kept me sane when I was really trying to be insane over Alex and Archer taught me the true definition of class.

After a few months of living, breathing IRC I accidentally got a job working at a live musical a theatre where I met Steph. She was a great person to work with and I have always though if a cat ever were to transform into a person they would look at act like Steph. When the summer was over Steph and I moved to Albany NY. Albany is really a dive.. well not really it is just not that friendly. When I moved I had no job and we had no place to live. Steph was really resourceful and within a few days we had an apartment and I had found myself a temp job at one of the GE branches around the area. Temp work is enjoyable if you don't have to pay rent at the end of the month. I went from one GE branch to another for a few weeks before ending up at the GE Research and Development Center. This was a great break for me since winter was coming on and I was flat broke. For six months I had the great fortune of working for two of the most wonderful managers anyone could ever want. I also made many friends there who adopted me (more or less) and helped me through some bad times. I gained a great respect for the work that admin assistants do while working at GE. You never know what someone's job is like until you do it. The people that I worked with encouraged me to look beyond my current position and to try and realize my potential.. It was through their belief in me, my desire to spend time with Karl and some luck that I found a job in California. Once I had the offer letter - I packed up my bags and moved!

Oh, while we are still in Albany.. there are some things I should mention. While I was there I met and became friends with Matt.. who happened to run a wonderful ISP. Without his help I would never have survived. A note to the reader: it is always a good idea to give credit when credit is due. Matt was also kind enough when I moved out to California to take care of my Hamster who was affectionately named: small, dark and indifferent or hamster boy! I recently found out that hamster boy passed away. I hope he had a good life.
