Tahoe

Before leaving for Tahoe for the weekend we went to the Humane Society to select our kittens. We arrived early and had to wait for the kennels to open. Once they opened we checked out all the kittens and picked out a gray and white female and a black and white male. They let us play with them for a few minutes to make sure they were the ones we wanted and the kittens were wonderful. John's kitten crawled all around his shoulders and my white/gray was happy to snuggle up and let me pet her. After we confirmed that these were indeed the kittens we wanted they told us they had to keep the kittens to 'fix' them and they would call us when we could pick them up. After we finished at the Humane Society we went to work and checked email and vmail before heading off to Lake Tahoe.

We were heading up to Tahoe to go to John's friend Bob's wedding in Truckee. The drive was about three and a half hours up into the mountains and was very attractive. John was planning on staying at a friend's cabin but that was unavailable so John rented a condo in Tahoe City for Friday and Saturday night. Once we got to Tahoe City we found the condo without much problem around five o'clock, checked in and dumped our stuff in the room. Since we had eaten pretty late we were not that hungry yet so we walked around the town a bit and took a look in a few of the shops. John had an idea for dinner and when we started getting hungry we wandered back to the condo and drove off to the restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant we found a parking space and went inside. The hostess informed us that we had about a 40 minute wait for dinner so we went down to the bar and ordered drinks.

We were paged for dinner about 30 minutes later and after some fun and games with the bill we were seated. John had bbq ribs and I ordered steak. Dinner was tasty, the service was good but it was a little loud since we were at a center table. I had several drinks and was quite buzzed by the time we headed back to the condo. When we got there John built a nice fire and we curled up on the sofa and watched the fire until we went to bed.

In the morning John got up and went out and picked up bagels for breakfast. I dragged myself into the shower and had breakfast. We spent the rest of the morning looking at Real Estate in the Tahoe area then we headed out to Truckee to find the Church. The church was just off the main street and we found it without a problem. When we pulled in John saw that his friend Joe had made it out for the wedding. It was great to meet Joe, Mike, Pam, Ken, Karen and Bob (briefly). The wedding was nice, not too elaborate and we were outside chatting pretty soon there after. We chatted for a while, John changed into his Tevas and we drove off to the reception. We wandered around the reception for a while then snagged a table toward the back with Joe, Andy, Karen, Pam, Ken and the kids. Mike was in the wedding party and sat up with the bride and groom. The there were some toasts and food was served. They cleared some tables out and the DJ played music for dancing. Other than a few slow dances John and I basically hung out around the table and talked.

The reception ended about 7ish, we all helped clean up, took some pictures then decided to meet up at Mike and Pam's hotel to have a late dinner. John and I arrived early and had some bread sticks while we waited. Everyone else arrived some time later, we order pizza and went up to Pam and Mike's room. The kids were settling down, we had some pizza, exchanged addresses and planned on meeting for breakfast in the morning. Ken, Karen and the kids were leaving early in the morning so we said our goodbyes and went back to the condo.

In the morning John scoped out some place for breakfast while I dragged myself out of bed and got ready. We checked out of the condo and wandered over to the restaurant. Joe and Andy were already there and we had a few minutes to wait before we could be seated. The waitress called us and we sat down and Mike, Pam and the kids arrived a few minutes later. We had a great breakfast and then went outside to say our goodbyes. Joe and Andy were leaving directly but Pam, Mike and the kids walked down to the beach and we took some pictures before going back to the car.

On the way back to San Jose we stopped at Squaw Valley to see a cabin which John has stayed in the past. We stopped into a local store and picked up a post card for my folks, wrote it up and mailed it. Then it was time to get back into the car and back to San Jose. I tried to sleep for most of the trip until around the Sonol when I woke up and talked to John. I realized that we were going to be going by the Stoneridge Mall and asked John if we could stop and look for a replacement ring for the one I broke playing air hockey and look for Bob's wedding present. We went into Macy's and looked around but we soon got frustrated and went to look for my ring. I could not remember exactly where I bought the ring so we wandered around until we were outside Natural Wonders and my brain clicked and we went inside. I found a sales person and showed him the one ring I still had and they pointed me to a small bowl of rings near the register. They had the ones I was looking for, John bought it for me and we decided to head back to San Jose for dinner.

It was so much fun to finally meet all of John's college friends and we are going to try to set up a mailing list so it will be easier to keep in touch. That is all for this trip report!
